Eighteen monumental flags rise as symbols of pride and decline. Rooted in Flanders’ medieval heritage as Europe’s textile powerhouse, these fabrics use the flag as a symbol of sovereignty and identity. Commissioned by Fedustria and Designregio Kortrijk, six companies wove this collective landscape together. Yet coarse seams run across the surfaces like scars, serving as tangible reminders of economic crises and political fault lines. Amid this grandeur, digital ghost flags dissolve into smoke, while a past marked by scars gives way to renewal.
